What this site collects
This site counts visits so I can see which lessons and templates people actually read. It uses Altino, a privacy-friendly analytics product from Si Novi. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage and does no fingerprinting, so nothing is saved on your device and there is nothing here that could identify you or follow you to another site.
Altino is served from its own domain, so you will see requests to altino.dev in your browser’s network panel. It is Si Novi’s own product rather than an advertising network, and it is the only measurement of any kind on this site: no ad tech, no session recording, no data sold or shared. The only other domain this site contacts is the API that serves the model catalogue, which is ours and receives nothing about you.
The engine, and the embedding model
Two large things on this site run in your browser rather than on a server, and both are served from here rather than from someone else’s CDN. The DynamoDB-compatible engine behind every console is about 850 KB and is only downloaded once you press a run button. The vector search page uses an embedding model of about 22 MB, downloaded only when you ask for it, cached by your browser afterwards, and loaded from this site rather than from Hugging Face.
Nothing you type into either goes anywhere. The tables you build, the notes you add on the vector search page and the text those are turned into all stay in the tab, and there is no server here for them to be sent to.
Who is responsible
accesspatterns.dev is operated by Si Novi Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 11370658, ICO registration ZA437640. Si Novi is the data controller for this site. Altino is the processor, handling the data on Si Novi’s behalf and for no purpose of its own. Si Novi also builds and runs Altino, so nothing here is passed to anyone else. What is measured
For each page view: the page you visited, the site that referred you (its domain only, and only when it was not this site), your browser and device type, and an approximate location. Anything after the?in the address is dropped before the visit is recorded, so a token or an email address carried in a link never reaches the stored data.
Where the location comes from
CloudFront, the content delivery network in front of the analytics endpoint, works out a rough country and city at its nearest edge and passes them along as request headers, together with the coordinates of that city. Altino reads those headers. It does not look your IP address up against a geolocation database, and the coordinates describe the city, not you.
What happens to your IP address
Your IP address is not stored. It is combined with your browser’s user-agent string, today’s date and a secret key, run through a one-way hash, and the result is what counts you as one visitor for the day. The secret key is doing real work there: without it, anyone holding a known address and user agent could compute the same hash themselves and check whether you had visited. The date goes in too, so the value changes every day and cannot be used to follow you from one day to the next.
What is kept
Running totals by day, week and month: views per page, per country, per city, per browser, per device, and per referring domain. Nothing in there identifies you. The record of your daily hash, which is what stops a single visit being counted twice, deletes itself after 24 hours.
What this site stores on your device
The analytics store nothing on your device. The site itself does keep a few things locally so it works the way you left it: whether you chose the light or dark theme, which lessons you have marked complete, and which templates you have favourited. The playground also keeps its practice tables in browser storage so they survive a reload. All of it stays on your machine and none of it is ever sent anywhere. There is no account and no login.
That is why there is no consent banner. Nothing stored on your device needs your permission, because it is only there to provide what you asked the site to do.
Do Not Track
If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is sent at all.
Legal basis, and your right to object
The lawful basis is legitimate interest: understanding how this site is used so it can be improved. Nothing is sold, shared or used for advertising.
You have the right to object to this at any time. Turning on Do Not Track stops all collection immediately, or you can email hello@sinovi.uk and I will handle it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your personal data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask that its use be restricted, and object to processing. In practice there is very little to act on here, because the totals kept cannot be traced back to any one person. Email hello@sinovi.uk and you will get a reply within 30 days.
If you are unhappy with how Si Novi has handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
